What is ZO Skin Health?
ZO® Skin Health is a professional skincare line founded by world-renowned dermatologist Dr. Zein Obagi.
The brand was developed around the belief that healthy skin can be supported through science, consistency, advanced formulations, and personalized treatment protocols. Rather than focusing on one temporary concern, ZO® regimens are designed to support the overall appearance, strength, balance, and long-term health of the skin.
ZO® products include daily cleansers, exfoliators, toners, retinols, serums, moisturizers, targeted treatments, masques, peels, and broad-spectrum sun protection.
At Adela Medical Spa, we can help remove the guesswork and recommend products that make sense for your skin type, concerns, experience level, and treatment plan.
1.) Getting Skin Ready
The foundation of a ZO® regimen is known as Getting Skin Ready®. This three-step process prepares the skin for the targeted products that follow.
The ZO Approach to Skin Health
Cleanse
Remove makeup, surface oil, dirt, sunscreen, and impurities without leaving the skin feeling excessively stripped.
Exfoliate
Remove dead surface cells and debris to help improve the visible appearance of texture, smoothness, and radiance.
Tone
Complete the preparation process by removing remaining oil and impurities and helping the skin feel refreshed and balanced.
Your provider will help determine which cleanser, exfoliator, and toner are appropriate for your skin.
2.) Prevent and Correct
Once the skin is properly prepared, targeted products may be added based on your specific concerns.
These products may include:
Antioxidant serums
Brightening products
Retinol treatments
Hydrating serums
Growth factor products
Oil-control products
Blemish-focused treatments
Eye treatments
Barrier-supporting products
Products designed to improve the appearance of fine lines and uneven texture
More active does not always mean more effective. Our team will help you introduce corrective products gradually and safely to reduce the likelihood of unnecessary dryness, irritation, or over-exfoliation.
3.) Protect
Daily sun protection is one of the most important steps in maintaining healthy-looking skin and protecting the results of your skincare routine and professional treatments.
ZO® offers multiple sunscreen options, including mineral, tinted, priming, fluid, gel, and powder formulas.
Your provider can help you choose a sunscreen based on your skin type, preferred finish, daily routine, and coverage needs.
Shop by Skin Concern
Fine Lines and Visible Signs of Aging
Support smoother, firmer, and more youthful-looking skin with a professionally selected regimen that may include antioxidants, retinol, growth factors, exfoliation, hydration, and daily sun protection.
Uneven Tone and Dark Spots
A personalized brightening routine can help improve the visible appearance of discoloration, dullness, uneven tone, and sun-related skin concerns.
Because pigmentation can have several causes, we recommend a consultation before beginning an aggressive brightening or retinol regimen.
Blemish-Prone and Congested Skin
Support clearer-looking skin with products selected to address excess oil, clogged pores, uneven texture, and visible blemishes without overwhelming the skin.
Your routine may include an appropriate cleanser, exfoliation, toning pads, oil-control products, targeted treatments, hydration, and sunscreen.
Dry or Dehydrated Skin
Dry skin and dehydrated skin are not always the same. Our providers can help determine whether your skin needs additional moisture, barrier support, gentle exfoliation, hydration, or changes to products that may be causing irritation.
Redness or Sensitized Skin
Sensitive-feeling skin may require a simplified routine that focuses on gentle cleansing, hydration, barrier support, and protection.
We can help you avoid combining too many active ingredients and create a gradual plan based on your skin’s tolerance.
Daily Sun Protection
Find a sunscreen you will enjoy wearing every day. Choose from options designed to provide broad-spectrum protection with different finishes, coverage levels, textures, and tints.
Your Personalized ZO Consultation
During your consultation, your provider may:
Discuss your primary skin concerns and goals.
Evaluate your visible skin type and current condition.
Review your existing skincare products.
Identify products that may be unnecessary, irritating, or working against one another.
Recommend a customized morning and evening routine.
Explain how to introduce active products gradually.
Discuss professional treatments that may complement your home routine.
Create a plan for follow-up and future adjustments.
You are welcome to bring photos or a list of the products you currently use.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
A consultation is strongly recommended, especially before beginning retinol, brightening products, exfoliating treatments, or a multi-step corrective regimen. Professional guidance can help you avoid choosing products that are too aggressive or unsuitable for your skin.
-
ZO® identifies itself as a professional and medical-grade skincare line featuring advanced formulations, targeted protocols, and products available through authorized professionals and its official website.
-
ZO® offers products developed for oily, congested, and blemish-prone skin. The appropriate regimen depends on your skin, the type and severity of your breakouts, your current medications, and other factors. Persistent, painful, cystic, or worsening acne may require evaluation by a medical professional or dermatologist.
-
Possibly. Sensitive or sensitized skin often requires a carefully selected and gradually introduced routine. Your provider may recommend gentle cleansing, hydration, barrier support, sunscreen, and limited active ingredients until the skin becomes more balanced.
-
Some active products may cause temporary dryness, flaking, redness, or sensitivity as your skin adjusts. This does not happen to everyone and should not automatically be considered a sign that a product is working. Contact your provider if irritation becomes uncomfortable, persistent, or severe.
-
The timeline varies depending on your concern, the products being used, your consistency, and your skin’s individual response. Some people notice changes in hydration, smoothness, or brightness relatively quickly, while concerns such as discoloration, blemishes, texture, and visible aging usually require greater consistency and time.
-
Certain products may need to be temporarily discontinued before and after professional treatments. The timing depends on the product, procedure, and your provider’s instructions. Always tell your provider which products you use.
-
We recommend reviewing your regimen whenever your skin changes, you begin a new medication, you become pregnant, you schedule a professional procedure, or you are no longer seeing the results you expect.
