Don’t Get Your First Tox (Dysport) Treatment Until Reading This!

Booking your first tox appointment can feel exciting, but it can also come with a lot of questions. At Adela Medical Spa, our goal is to make every client feel comfortable, educated, and confident before they ever sit in the chair. Don't get your first treatment before reading this!

What is Dysport?

Dysport is the preferred form of tox used at Adela and a cousin of Botox.  It is a neuromodulator, often referred to as “tox,” that helps reduce the appearance of lines that show up when you frown, squint, raise your brows, or make facial expressions over time.

The goal is not to freeze your face. The goal is to soften movement in specific areas so your skin can look smoother and more refreshed.

What areas can Dysport treat?

In the hands of an experienced injector, Dysport can lift and smooth many areas of the face. Frown lines between the eyebrows, also called the “11s,"  the forehead, crow’s feet, brow area, jaw line, chin dimples, and upper lip are just a few areas that can be enhanced and treated.

Your injector will evaluate your facial movement and talk with you about what areas make sense for your goals.

Will I still look natural?

Yes, when done correctly, Dysport looks very natural. A good tox treatment should help you look rested and refreshed, not overdone. The amount used depends on your muscle strength, facial anatomy, previous treatment history, and desired result.

For first-time clients, it is common to start conservatively. You can always adjust your plan at future appointments. At Adela we love to have long-term relationships with our patients so that we can learn your face and dial in your treatments over time to look amazing!

Does the appointment hurt?

Most clients describe the treatment as quick and very tolerable. The injections are done with a small needle and usually feel like tiny pinches. The actual injection portion is typically brief.

If you are nervous, let your provider know. Our great injectors will walk you through the process and help you feel comfortable!

How long does Dysport take to work?

Some people may begin noticing changes within a few days, but full results can take 2 weeks to settle depending on the person. It is important not to judge your final results too early! Give your treatment time to settle before deciding whether you need any adjustments. We often schedule a follow-up 2 weeks after your first injection so that we can see your results firsthand in order ot make any future adjustments.

How long does Dysport last?

Dysport results are temporary. Many tox treatments last around three to four months, though this can vary based on metabolism, treatment area, dosage, muscle strength, and how often you receive treatments. Our injectors will talk to you about when to schedule your next treatment.

What should I do before my appointment?

Before your appointment, come prepared to talk honestly about your goals, medical history, medications, allergies, and whether you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have any neuromuscular conditions. Dysport is a prescription medication, so your provider needs this information to make sure treatment is appropriate for you.

It also helps to avoid scheduling your first tox appointment right before a major event. Give yourself time to heal, settle, and see your final result.

What should I avoid after Dysport?

Aftercare instructions are very easy, and consist of avoiding intense exercise for the rest of the day, and staying upright for a period of time after treatment.

Your provider will give you specific aftercare instructions based on your treatment. Follow those instructions closely for the best experience!

Are there side effects?

Like any injectable treatment, Dysport can have side effects. Some common temporary effects may include redness, swelling, tenderness, bruising, or headache.

During your consultation, your provider will review risks, benefits, and whether you are a good candidate.

How do I know how many units I need?

There is no one-size-fits-all answer. The amount needed depends on your facial muscles, the areas being treated, your goals, and whether you want a softer or stronger result.

This is why our relationship with you is so important! We will create a plan that is personalized to your face, not copied from someone else’s!

When should I book my next appointment?

Most clients return when they begin noticing movement coming back and lines becoming more visible again. For many people, this is around the three- to four-month mark, but it varies. Your provider may recommend a maintenance schedule that fits your goals and budget.
